Having Learned of the Accomplishments of,
SEIJIN TRANBERG AND JOSHUA WILDMAN

Does Hearby Extend its Recongnition; and
ここに、感謝の思いを伝え、そして
WHEREAS, Seijin Transberg and Joshua Wildman, both Japanese Americans, are bicycling 2,300 miles across the United States to promote the 22-year-old ideals of faith, family and freedom worldwide and to protest religious persecution around the world and, specially, persecution of Unification Church members in Japan; and
Seijin Transberg氏とJoshua Wildman氏は、両名、日系アメリカ人であるが、信仰・家族・自由の促進のため、そして、世界中の宗教迫害、とりわけ日本の統一教会メンバーに対する迫害に反対するため、アメリカ横断2300マイル（3700キロ）の自転車の旅を行うということに鑑（かんが）み、そして、
WHEREAS, the goal of the corss-country tour is to raise public awareness of the more than 4,000 Unification Church members in Japan, and of many members of other minority religions, who have been abducted and confined for considerable lengths of time in an effort to break their faith; and
その大陸横断の旅の目的は、日本での4000名にのぼる統一教会員や、弱小宗教団体のメンバーが、これまで改宗目的のため誘拐され、長期にわたり監禁されてきた事実を、広く一般に広めることにあったということに鑑み、そして、
WHEREAS, the demoractic nation of Japan must begin to enforce its own laws that promise religious freedom and due process for all of its citizens, regardless of their religious beliefs; and
民主国家である日本は、その国民の宗教的信条に関わらず、すべての国民の宗教の自由を保障する自らの法を行使し始めなければならない、ということに鑑み、そして、
WHEREAS, Mr. Tranberg and Mr. Wildman seek to raise awareness of abuse against all religious minorities in the world, including Baptists in Russia, Baha'is in Iran and new religious movements in Europe and Central and South America; and
Seijin Transberg氏とJoshua Wildman氏は、ロシアのバプティスト教会、イランのバハーイー教、ヨーロッパ、中南米の新宗教運動をも含めた世界のすべての弱小宗教グループに対する虐待の事実を広く一般に知らせようとした事に鑑み、そして、
WHEREAS, the grandparents of Mr. Tranberg and Mr. Wildman were mortal enemies, and their children dedicated themselves to reconciliation and a world of peace; and
Seijin Transberg氏とJoshua Wildman氏の祖父は敵であったが、彼らの子供達は和解と平和な世界を求める努力をしたことに鑑み、そして、
WHEREAS, Mr. Tranberg and Mr. Wildman will be in New Mexico from January 15 to January 17, 2012; and
Seijin Transberg氏とJoshua Wildman氏は、2012年1月15日から17日まで、ニュー・メキシコ州を通過することに鑑み、そして、
WHEREAS, people throughout of New Mexico specifically states, "Every man shall be free to worship God according to the dictates of his own conscience, and no person shall ever be molested or denided any civil or political rights or privilege on account of his religious opinion or mode of religious worship"; and
「すべての人は、それぞれの良心により、神を信仰する自由があり、誰も、宗教的信念や、信仰する宗教の違いによって、市民権、政治的権利を蹂躙されたり否定されることはない。」と、具体的に、ニュー・メキシコの人々は述べている事に鑑み、そして、
WHEREAS, Nex Mexicans are known for honoring the tradition of faith as a vital institution of civil soceity, for honoring freedom as a goal of all democratic governments and for honoring family as the building block of society; and
ニュー・メキシコの人々は、市民社会の大切な機関として信仰の伝統を重んじ、すべての民主主義政権の目標としての自由を尊び、社会の築く単位としての家族を尊重していることに鑑み、そして、
WHEREAS, New Mexicans of Japanese ancestry and New Mexicans of Native American, Hiapanic and European ancestry recently marked the seventieth anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack with the recognition that the United States and japan are allies; and
日系、アメリカの原住民、ヒスパニック系、ヨーロッパ系のニュー・メキシコ市民は、つい最近、真珠湾攻撃の70周年を記録し、アメリカと日本は同盟国であると確認した事に鑑み、そして、
WHEREAS, faith, family and freedom are shared aspirations of the American people and the Japanese people, as evidenced by their tradition of religous practice of various faiths, their tradition of family culture and their laudatory example of democratic goverance;
さまざまな宗教の伝統、家族文化の伝統、民主統治のすばらしき例により裏打ちされた、信仰・家族・自由は、アメリカの人々、日本の人々の共通した強い願望であることに鑑み、
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that recognition be extended to Seijin Tranberg and Joshua Wildman for their efforts to promote faith, family and freedom around the world.
それ故、ニュー・メキシコ州・上院議会は、Seijin Tranberg氏と、Joshua Wildman氏の、信仰、家族、自由促進のための世界的な努力に対し感謝の気持ちを送る事を、ここに決議する。

*「決議文」には、日付が入っていないが、作成された時期は、二人が、ニュー・メキシコに入る前のはずである。アメリカの州政府が、日本の拉致監禁問題に言及し、糾弾している点が興味深い。二人の若者の行動がなければ、そのような決議文はなかっただろう。
訳しながら思ったけれど、アメリカは、宗教の国だなと思った。信仰とか、宗教という言葉が、州政府の公文書に堂々とでてくるのだから。

信仰の自由を求める活動に対して、アメリカという国は本当に価値を置くんですね。
州上院議会の決議を心から喜ばしく思います。
「信仰の自由」という、何事にも代え難い尊い価値について、ピンと来ない日本（政府、国民）。なんか、民度が低いというか、恥ずかしいですね。
